The US claims it “has nothing to do with this offensive” in Syria

The US claims it “has nothing to do with this offensive” in Syria. But the uncomfortable facts are:
1️⃣ Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) are direct descendants of the assorted so-called “moderate rebels” that the US and its allies armed to the teeth from 2011 onwards.
2️⃣ The US has long outsourced much of this dirty work to Türkiye, which continues to play an utterly shameful role. The US can claim having “nothing to do with this” while quietly giving Ankara the go-ahead.
3️⃣ The US still refuses to normalise relations with, and to enforce brutal sanctions on, Syria.
4️⃣ The US maintains a thousand troops in Syria, helping themselves to as much oil as they can get their grubby hands on.
5️⃣ Syria is, along with Iran, the key regional supporter of the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance, and undermining Syria remains a crucial objective for both the US and Israel.
This current offensive should be seen as part of the escalating regional war being waged by Israel and its allies against the Axis of Resistance. Those who stand up against genocide in Gaza, war on Lebanon, threats of war on Iran and missile strikes on Yemen, must also stand up against proxy war and terrorism in Syria.
