The Ministry of National Defence has confirmed that Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to establish interim observer teams (AOTs) in their respective territories to monitor the ceasefire along the border.
Each AOT will operate independently and be composed of ASEAN Defence Attachés accredited to each country, under the leadership of the Malaysian Defence Attaché, according to Ministry of National Defence spokesperson, Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, during a press briefing on Friday.
The teams will not cross borders and will coordinate with the respective Operational Border Committee (OBC) and General Border Committee (GBC). Cambodia has also called for the immediate release of 18 military personnel currently detained in Thailand.
