On December 22, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has explicitly accused the United States and Israel of being the primary forces behind the recent chaos and the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. In his recent addresses, Khamenei has stated that the uprising and the subsequent fall of Assad’s government were orchestrated by the United States and Israel.
He described the events in Syria as a “joint American and Zionist plot,” emphasizing that the main conspirators and masterminds behind the chaos are in the United States and Israel.
Khamenei also accused these countries of seeking to seize resources and spread chaos in Syria, and he called on the Syrian youth to resist the new government emerging after Assad’s ouster, believing that a new resistance faction would form to counter the current developments.
Assad left the country in the late hours of December 8 after the U.S.-designated terrorist organization Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies — some of whom are linked with Turkey — overran government forces in a blitz offensive.
